Six Goucher Student-Athletes Participated In 12th Annual Landmark Conference Research Symposium
BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College hosted the 12th annual Landmark Conference Research Symposium on July 22 virtually over zoom. Among the presenters of students in the Landmark Conference were six student-athletes from Goucher.
Alex Coffin (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) (women's volleyball), Alex DiGiovanni (York, Pa./Dover) (women's tennis), Julia Gazzola (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) (women's lacrosse), Zach LaFaver (Hanover, Md./South Western) (men's soccer), Finley Lindsey (Gilbert, Ariz./Hamilton) (women's soccer) and Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrews School) (men's lacrosse) represented the Gophers at the symposium.
The goal of the Summer Research Symposium was to create a way for students to come together in an academic setting, while allowing students working on summer research projects to present their work to faculty and peers from other Landmark institutions.
The conference had a total of 12 student-athletes participate. Additionally, the Landmark's Executive Board Chair, Moravian University's President Bryon Grigsby's daughter, Eliza Grigsby, also participated.
Students had the opportunity to present their research as poster presentations or give 10-minute oral panel presentations. The event was organized and administered using Zoom.
As NCAA Division III members, the Landmark Conference has embraced the division's philosophy that places its primary focus on academics. Division III institutions seek to minimize the conflicts between athletics and academics and desire to keep student-athletes on a path to graduation. Student-athletes are integrated on campus and treated like all other members of the general student-body, which keeps them focused on being a student first.
