All Four Goucher Riders Advance to Zone IV Championships
TOWSON, Md. — As host of today's IHSA Zone IV Region I Championships, Goucher wanted to pull off as near-perfect an event as possible. Of course, another goal was to advance most if not all of its competing riders to zones.
Coaches Pick Postel to Receive Sportsmanship Award
TOWSON, Md. — As host of today's IHSA Zone IV Region I Championships, Goucher wanted to pull off as near-perfect an event as possible. Of course, another goal was to advance most if not all of its competing riders to zones.
Consider both goals accomplished. Not only did director Patte Zumbrun and her staff earn high praise for the competition they presented, but all four of its riders placed high enough to represent Goucher at the Zone IV Championships.
Karli Postel (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Oaks Christian School) distinguished herself as the top rider in the open division, winning blue ribbons in both the jumping and the flat phase.
Postel was also the recipient of the Laura Burns Memorial Sportsmanship Award, which is given annually by the region's coaches to recognize the rider which best represents the spirit of intercollegiate competition, sportsmanship and teamwork. Burns was a member of the William & Mary equestrian team who was killed in an automobile accident in January 2006.
Addie Jabin (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) came away from today's competition with a blue ribbon in intermediate equitation on the flat and a red ribbon for novice fences.
Laura Malone (Weston, Mass./Weston) and Joey Fink (Baltimore, Md./The Park School) both competed in the novice division. Malone was awarded first place in novice flat and Fink took second place in both phases.
The Zone IV Championships will be held April 6 in Laurinburg, N.C.
