Patashnik Earns High Marks, Malone In at Regionals

OATLAND, Md. — Goucher not only padded its lead atop the IHSA Zone IV Region I standings by placing first at today's show, it also produced the event's reserve high point rider.
The 36 points the Gophers earned while competing at The Other Left Farm boosted their total for the season to 217, giving them a commanding 77-point advantage over George Washington, which holds down the No. 2 spot in the standings with 140 points. Third place belongs to Mount St. Mary's (115 points).
Senior Moriah Patashnik (Seattle, Wash./The Northwest School) was proclaimed the reserve high point rider at today's show. She was awarded first place in intermediate equitation over fences and second place in novice equitation on the flat.
Junior Laura Malone (Weston, Mass./Weston) took second place in intermediate flat and novice fences, securing enough points in the latter to qualify to compete as an individual at the regional championships in March.; sophomore Kaduk Sherpa (East Aurora, N.Y./The Park School) came away with a red ribbon in novice flat.
Freshman Hannah Woodson (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) picked up a blue ribbon for her first-place performance in advanced walk-trot-canter equitation and junior Joel Brandis (Portland, Ore./Grant) did the same in walk-trot.
With two more shows remaining during the IHSA regular season, junior Joey Fink (Baltimore, Md./The Park School) is 13 points ahead of both Anna Rossi from American and Amanda Lane from Mount St. Mary's in the competition to determine the region's Cacchione Cup qualifier.
