TOWSON, Md. — Patte Zumbrun, who served as director and head coach of Goucher's equestrian program for 26 years, was presented with the prestigious Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's (IHSA) Lifetime Achievement Award today.
The presentation was made by IHSA founder and executive director Robert Cacchione at the IHSA Zone IV Championships, which were conducted today on the Goucher campus.
Zumbrun, who will be inducted into the Goucher College Athletics Hall of Fame on April 23, was employed by the institution from 1978 until she retired in 2013. She has been credited with developing one of the most outstanding varsity riding programs in the mid-Atlantic region and her teams captured six IHSA Zone IV Region I titles during the final 11 years as director and head coach.
Zumbrun-coached teams also earned bids on three separate opccasions to compete in the Collegiate Cup Hunter Seat at the IHSA National Horse Show.
The addition of Zumbrun brings to 23 the number of equestrian coaches who have been presented the Lifetime Achievement Award in the 48-year history of the IHSA.
