TOWSON, Md. — Goucher opened up a commanding 22-point lead over George Washington University in the 2017-2018 IHSA Zone IV Region I standings today by earning 45 points at the region's second show of the season, an event hosted by Towson University and conducted at Amazing Grace Equestrian Center in Parkton, MD. Senior Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, MD / Marriotts Ridge) continued her mastery over the competition as she earned two blue ribbons and was named the high point rider for the second consecutive weekend. The win for Goucher was particularly well-timed, as IHSA President and Founder Bob Cacchione were in the audience for the day.
Goucher, Sunday's high point college, raised its season total to 92 points. George Washington, which picked up 39 points as reserve high point college, leaped back into second place in the overall standings with 70 points which gives them a comfortable 18 point lead ahead of the third-place team, George Mason University.
In the intermediate division, first-year Sarah Edmunds (Lancaster, Pa. / Linden Hall) was first place in Intermediate flat for the second straight weekend, and sophomore Courtney Sloan (Annandale, VA / W.T. Woodson) placed third in Intermediate Fences.
Sophomores Rena DiPaula (Westminster, MD / Institute of Notre Dame) and Annika Field (Clinton, WA / South Whidbey) placed second in Novice Fences and second Novice flat, respectively.
Junior Wren Wakeman (Addison, ME / Washington Academy) placed first in the Advanced Walk Trot Canter division and sophomore Cherise Madrid (Braintree, MA / Braintree) placed first in Walk Trot.
