Gophers Grow Lead in Zone IV Region I Standings

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher opened up a commanding 33-point lead over George Washington in the 2017-18 IHSA Zone IV Region I standings today by earning 43 points at the region's third show of the season at home. Reserve Champion team honors went to Johns Hopkins University with 39 points.
Goucher, today's high point college, raised its season total to 135 points. George Washington, which picked up 32 points, held on to second place in the standings with 102 points. Johns Hopkins remained in 3rd place with 88, with George Mason University nipping at their heels with 82.
Senior Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, MD / Marriotts Ridge) kept up a remarkable streak, winning High Point Rider honors again this weekend by placing first in both Open Flat and Open Fences. This is the third consecutive show that Hundley has won both Open classes.
First years dominated the intermediate division, with Sarah Edmunds (Lancaster, Pa. / Linden Hall) placing second in Intermediate flat, and Emily Fewster (Towson, Md. / Carver Center for Arts and Tech) placing third in Intermediate Fences. Edmunds also placed 2nd in Open Fences.
Sophomores Rena DiPaula (Westminster, MD / Institute of Notre Dame) and Annika Field (Clinton, WA / South Whidbey) placed first in Novice Fences and Novice flat, respectively.
Seniors Stephanie Detwiler (Lancaster, PA / Hempfield), Ari Schlossberg (Barrington, IL / Barrington Community) and Kyle Kihn (Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) all snagged second place finished in their classes.
The Gophers head into a doubleheader weekend at George Mason and George Washington Universities.
