Goucher Graduate Adeline Callihan Named Graduate Assistant At Lynchburg College
July 16, 2021
BALTIMORE, Md. – Adeline Callihan, a 2021 graduate and a four-year member of the Goucher College equestrian team, has been named a graduate assistant for the Lynchburg College equestrian team.
"I'm so thrilled for both Phillip (Williamson) and Adeline on what I know will be an amazing partnership at Lynchburg," said Gophers equestrian head coach Jen Smith. "I know Adeline's personality and her skill set will bring a lot to their team, and I can't wait to see what they'll accomplish together!"
Callihan, a three-year team captain, was undefeated for two years, including a win at the Tournament of Champions in 2019, and she defeated National Champions at competitions. She posted two first-place ribbons and three second-place ribbons in an abbreviated 2021 season in the intermediate flat and intermediate fences.
"I'm excited to be at Lynchburg, and it feels extra special because it's where Jen went to school! She taught me so much during my time I Goucher, so it's fun to be at the same place she did her undergrad! said Callihan. "I didn't think this was where I would end up. I thought my days in the horse world were coming to an end, but after coming down to visit Lynchburg and interviewing with Coach Williamson. I knew that I couldn't quite give up horses."
A native of Keene, N.H., Callihan graduated from Goucher in 2021 with a degree in economics. She earned the Max Hochschild Prize for Excellence in Economics and was a member of multiple honor societies. Callihan was also named a Josephine E. Fiske Gopher Pride Award winner in 2021 and was named to the All-Goucher second team in 2020 and earned an All-Goucher first-team spot in 2021.
"This is honestly a dream job for me. College riding was such a huge part of my experience at Goucher, and I'm so happy to continue to be a part of it in a different way!, said Callihan. "I think being a team captain and being part of the Goucher family helped me move into this position with confidence. I have so much to learn in this new role, but it also feels very familiar. I had always thought about being a coach, but once I got focused on my degree at Goucher that thought faded, I'm so happy that Jen re-sparked my interest, and that Coach Williamson is putting his trust in me. I'm looking forward to learning and growing with the program at Lynchburg."
She is enrolled in the Master of Business Administration program with an emphasis in sport management at Lynchburg.
