WASHINGTON, D.C. - Host Catholic University scored three goals in each of the first three quarters en route to a 9-0 Landmark Conference field hockey victory over Goucher College Wednesday night at Cardinal Stadium.
- Catholic (7-6, 2-1 Landmark) put two shots on goal in the first two minutes of the game that were saved by Goucher's (2-8, 0-3) Carla Caballero (Dallas, Texas/Greenhill School).
- The Cardinals got their first goal of the game just past the three-minute mark.
- Catholic would tack on goals in the sixth and 10th minutes to take a 3-0 lead after 15 minutes.
- Nancy McGettigan scored for Catholic at the midway point of the second quarter.
- After scoring at 24:15, the Cardinals made it 6-0 with 10 seconds remaining in the half.
- Catholic scored just 38 seconds into the third on Goucher relief goalie Julia Foster (Pylesville, Md./North Harford).
- The Cardinals scored just under six minutes into the frame and again with 2:30 remaining.
- Goucher first year Thembi Makwakwa (Laurel, Md./Meade) had a shot for the Gophers that went high off a penalty corner with just under two minutes left.
- Catholic took 32 shots and eight penalty corners.
- Caballero made nine saves in the first half, while Foster recorded three saves.
- Goucher returns to action on Saturday, hosting Juniata for a 1 pm Landmark Conference game at Beldon Field.
