Gophers Blank EMU to Move to 3-0

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College field hockey team got goals from three different scorers as it moved to 3-0 with a 3-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite University Wednesday afternoon.
- Goucher (3-0) had one shot on goal by Riley Peery and two by Zoe Mikles in the first two minutes of the game.
- At the 6:20 mark, Mikles got the Gophers on the board with her fourth goal of the season.
- Madison Usher had a shot turned aside by EMU's (0-3) Gracyn Arruda in the final minute of the quarter.
- Kaitlyn Bucci had the lone shot for either team in the second quarter five minutes in that was stopped by Arruda.
- The Royals generated a penalty corner with three minutes left before halftime.
- Bucci scored when she ripped a shot from the top of the arc 1:51 into the second half to make it 2-0.
- The Gophers made it 3-0 in the 39th minute when Daryn Carter lifted a high arcing shot off a penalty corner. Maddie Fisher notched the assist.
- Arruda stopped two Bucci shots with just under 11 minutes to play.
- EMU's Kate Landis had a shot turned aside by Goucher goalie Katie Bloom with eight minutes left.
- At 3-0, Goucher is off to its best start since the 2014 season. The Gophers have outscored their opponents 9-2 and surpassed last season's win total.
- The Gophers' three game win streak is their longest since winning three in a row in 2019.
- Goucher outshot Eastern Mennonite 13-1.
- Arruda made seven saves for the Royals, while Bloom made one save for her first collegiate shutout.
