Gophers Fall to Wilkes in Landmark Opener

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Wilkes University scored a pair of second half goals as it recorded a 2-0 win over Goucher College in Landmark Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Wilkes (4-2, 1-0 Landmark) had all five shots in the first quarter.
- Goucher (4-1, 0-1) goalie Katie Bloom made three saves.
- Bloom made her first save of the second quarter 1:23 into the frame.
- The Colonels' second shot on goal of the frame was turned aside by Bloom midway through the quarter.
- The Gophers' Isa Schenk pushed a shot wide in the final seconds of the quarter.
- Wilkes scored just over a minute into the second half.
- An initial shot by Caitlin Keim was saved by Bloom, before Bridget Rosenfield knocked home the rebound.
- Schenk had another shot with just over two minutes left in the period.
- Back-to-back shots by Schenk and Kaitlyn Bucci three minutes into the final period were stopped by Wilkes goalie Carly Eidle.
- Bloom had a pair of saves with six minutes left.
- The Colonels doubles their lead with 3:22 left as Morgan Hermanofski scored off a long feed from Morgan Millard.
- Bucci pushed a shot wide with two minutes left.
- Wilkes outshot Goucher 18-6 on the afternoon.
- Bloom made a career-best 11 saves, while Eidle recorded a pair of stops.
- Maddie Fisher also had a defensive save for Goucher.
- The Colonels held an 11-6 lead on penalty corners.
- Goucher suffered its first defeat of the season after winning its first four, the first time it had opened the season with four straight wins since 1995.
- Goucher is back in action Friday evening at home, hosting Ferrum in a 6 pm non-conference game at Beldon Field.
