Bucci, Holmes Score Twice in Win Over Ferrum

TOWSON, Md. - Kaitlyn Bucci and Angelena Holmes each scored twice as the Goucher College field hockey team blanked Ferrum College 4-0 Friday evening at Beldon Field.
- Goucher (5-1) scored just 1:17 into the game as Holmes scored on a feed from Isa Schenk.
- Schenk dribbled in and found Holmes in front of a wide-open goal and Holmes tapped it in.
- Bucci made it 2-0 just over five minutes in when she backhanded home a shot from the top of the arc.
- Goucher generated six penalty corners in the second quarter.
- The Gophers also had six shots, with four of them saved by Ferrum (1-5) goalie Maggie Cass.
- The Gophers had five penalty corners in the opening minutes of the second half.
- A shot by Bucci was saved by Cass.
- Goucher kept the pressure up with seven more corners.
- Bucci scored her second goal of the game 1:35 into the fourth.
- Off a corner, Bucci knocked home a rebound of an initial shot by Schenk that was saved by Cass.
- Goucher's final goal came with just over six minutes left as Holmes scored on an assist by Schenk again.
- Schenk hit a shot off the post that Holmes collected the carom and put it in to make it 4-0.
- Goucher outshot Ferrum 20-1 and had 28 penalty corners to the Panthers' one.
- Goucher's 28 corners are two shy of the program record of 30 in a game set against Bryn Mawr in 2015.
- Goucher goalie Katie Bloom made one save en route to her second collegiate shutout.
- Cass stopped nine of the 13 shots she faced.
- The Gophers improved to 5-0 all-time against Ferrum.
- Goucher is back in action Sunday, as Saturday's Landmark Conference contest against Lycoming has been postponed due to the forecast of tropical inclement weather.
