Belauskas Scores in 2-1 Setback at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College field hockey team made a pair of firsrt half goals stand up as it downed Goucher College 2-1 in non-conference field hockey Tuesday evening at Thomas Athletic Field.
- Hood (7-2) got on the board just four minutes in as Morgan Hackett scored.
- Just over a minute later, the Blazers put a shot on goal that was turned aside by Goucher (6-2) goalie Katie Bloom.
- Kaitlyn Bucci had Goucher's first shot in the 12th minute that went wide.
- Bucci had another shot a minute later as the Gophers generated a penalty corner.
- Goucher generated a penalty corner six minutes into the second quarter.
- After three shots were blocked by Gopher defenders, Bailey Oberholtzer scored at the 23:58 mark to put the Blazers in front 2-0.
- The Gophers generated four penalty corners in the final three minutes of the half, with Isa Schenk having a shot saved by Hood defender Madeline Moreno.
- Rylie Belauskas had a shot saved in the first minute of the half.
- With 5:42 remaining in the third, Goucher cut the lead to 2-1 on a corner.
- Bucci sent a shot in that was going left, but was redirected by Belauskas and past Hood goalie Richana Brown.
- Bloom saved a pair of shots with three minutes to go in the third.
- Schenk had a shot turned aside by Brown three minutes into the final frame.
- Off a corner moments later, Bucci sent a shot wide.
- The Blazers outshot the Gophers 6-0 in the final 10 minutes, with Bloom making a pair of saves.
- Hood held a 29-13 lead in shots and took 16 penalty corners to Goucher's nine.
- Bloom made a career-best 10 saves, while Brown turned aside three shots. The hosts were also credited with a pair of defensive saves.
- Bucci led Goucher with seven shots.
- Belauskas scored for the second straight game.
- Goucher jumps back into Landmark action Saturday, traveling to Juniata for a 1 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home Sunday, October 8, when they host Widener in a 1 pm game at Beldon Field.
