Usher Scores Early Goal, Bloom Makes Career-Best 13 Saves at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Visiting Goucher College staked itself to a 1-0 lead 5:37 into the game, but Juniata College scored the game's last four goals in a 4-1 Landmark Conference field hockey victory Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium.
- Goucher (6-3, 1-2 Landmark) took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute as Madison Usher scored.
- An initial shot off a corner by Isa Schenk was stopped by Juniata (4-6, 1-2) goalie Brittney McMullen, but Usher knocked home the rebound.
- Aimee Buffington tied the game for the Eagles off an assist by Tess Ledeboer with 2:30 left in the opening frame.
- After generating three penalty corners in a minute, Juniata took a 2-1 lead at the 21:05 mark with Ledeboer scoring.
- Just over two minutes later the Gophers generated a penalty corner.
- Ledeboer struck again 3:54 before halftime to make it 3-1.
- Buffington scored her second goal of the game just 33 seconds into the second half to put Juniata up 4-1.
- In the 34th minute Katie Bloom made a save on a Sydney Witter shot, and Daryn Carter recorded a defensive save on another Witter try.
- Bloom made two more saves following an Eagle corner in the 38th minute.
- Following a penalty corner, Bloom made a save on a Colleen Creneti shot a minute into the fourth.
- Kaitlyn Bucci put a shot on goal with just over 10 minutes left that was saved by McMullen.
- Moments later the Gophers were awarded a penalty stroke, which they failed to convert.
- Bloom made four more saves as Goucher kept the hosts off the board in the final period.
- Juniata outshot Goucher 24-5 and took 13 penalty corners to the Gophers' three.
- Bloom made a career-high 13 saves, while McMullen notched four stops.
- It marked Bloom's third double-digit save effort of the season and second straight.
- Bucci had two of Goucher's five shots.
- Goucher returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Southern Virginia for a 7 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home on Sunday, October 8, hosting Widener in a 1 pm game at Beldon Field.
