Makwakwa, West Record First Career Goals at Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. - Sophomore Thembi Makwakwa and first year Camden West each scored their first collegiate goals as the Goucher College field hockey team registered a 5-1 non-conference victory over Southern Virginia University
- Goucher (7-3) scored just 1:34 into the game on West's first collegiate goal.
- Just over a minute later, Julia Blondell had a shot blocked.
- The Gophers generated two more penalty corners the rest of the quarter against the Knights (0-8).
- Kaitlyn Bucci scored her first goal of the game just over five minutes into the second half.
- Madison Usher had a shot saved by SVU goalie Makaila Gillardo two minutes later.
- With 2:36 left before halftime, Makwakwa scored her first career goal, with Blondell recording an assist in her collegiate debut.
- Goucher goalie Katie Bloom made a save with just under a minute to go in the half.
- Bucci scored her second goal of the night 1:51 into the second half to make it 4-1. Angelena Holmes assisted on the goal.
- Goucher put four more shots on goal in the frame, with Gillardo stopping all four.
