SELINSGROVE, Pa. - When Goucher lost to Susquehanna by 17 points at home last month, Josh Robinson tallied 25 points for the Crusaders. In tonight's rematch, the senior guard didn't stop there.
Robinson, the leading scorer in the Landmark Conference at 21.1 points per game going in, produced 27 points this time, helping the Crusaders claim a 71-58 victory and remain in sole possession of first place.
It was the first of Robinson's two three-point baskets that snapped a 6-6 tie less than four minutes into tonight's game that put the Crusaders (11-9, 8-2 Landmark) ahead to stay. The Gophers (6-14, 4-6 Landmark) trailed by seven at halftime, 34-27.
The closest Goucher was able to get in the second half was 46-40 on a lay-up by Marcus Cotton (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) with 10:37 left to play, but before the Gophers tallied their next point, Robinson dropped in a pair of free throws and his other three-point field goal to push Susquehanna's lead back up to 11 points.
Only one other Division III player has scored more points in a game against Goucher this season than Robinson. Back on Nov. 25, Tim Kohlrus of Washington (Md.) knocked down 35 points in leading the Shoremen past the Gophers, 74-73, in overtime.
Cotton was Goucher's only double-digit scorer tonight. He was 8-for-11 from the field as he finished with 19 points. Nick DeSouza (Washington, DC/Archbishop Spalding), Darrin Boswell II (Philadelphia, PA/Joppatowne) and Amir Hakim (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City College) all supplied the Gophers with eight points.
