Men’s Basketball Starts Season with First Win Since 2017
TOWSON, Md. - In a heart-pounding Thursday night season opener at The Deck, the Goucher College men’s basketball team took home their first victory in over a year again the University of Valley Forge Patriots with a final score of 77-63.
TOWSON, Md. - In a heart-pounding Thursday night season opener at The Deck, the Goucher College men's basketball team took home their first victory in over a year again the University of Valley Forge Patriots with a final score of 77-63.
The Gophers put up the first points of the contest and continued to play well on both sides of the court. While the Patriots put up a strong fight throughout the matchup, they never took the lead. At the end of the first half, Valley Forge trailed by sixteen points.
The Patriots offense came into the second half of the game with a new intensity, and at one point closed the Gophers lead to a mere six points. Ultimately, Goucher turned up the heat and defeated Valley Forge by 14 points.
Goucher was led in points by junior Dwayne Morton (Waynesville, Mo.) who racked up five field goals and went 3-3 in three-pointers. Morton also went 2-2 from the line. Freshman Steven Quintero (Coral Springs, Fla.) turned in an impressive performance in his Goucher College debut, putting up a total of 12 points with five field goals and two 3-pointers. Five of the twelve Goucher players that saw action tonight had double-digit games.
Valley Forge was led in points by Isaiah Tisdale, who tallied eight field goals and went 3-9 in three-pointers. Arthur Wilborn racked up eighteen points in the contest, a close second to the 19 scored by Tisdale.
The Gophers will be back in action on Saturday, November 10 as they travel to Wilson College for a 7 PM non-conference match.
