Gophers Downed by Mary Baldwin in MMI Tip-Off Consolation

FREDERICK, Md. - Mary Baldwin University built a 36-27 halftime lead en route to a 66-57 win over Goucher College in the consolation round of the MMI Tip-Off hosted by Hood College at BB&T Arena on Saturday.

• Goucher (0-2) held an early 7-3 lead following a three by Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) 2:19 into the game.
• The Squirrels (1-1) tied the game twice but Goucher took a 13-9 lead on a free throw by Brandon Joseph (Bowie, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) at the 12:26 mark.
• Mary Baldwin scored 10 straight points to build a 19-13 lead with 9:49 on the clock.
• Goucher pulled within four on two Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) free throws before a MBU triple made it 25-18 with just under eight minutes to play.
• Mary Baldwin closed the half on a 11-4 run to take a 36-27 lead into halftime.

• Goucher got the lead down to seven, 41-34, on a Green trifecta with 16:39 on the clock.
• A layup by Green with 11:24 left made it a 45-39 game.
• Mary Baldwin responded with eight straight points to go up 53-39 with 9:30 remaining.
• The Gophers got the lead down to eight, 54-46 on a Green basket with just under five minutes to go but got no closer the rest of the way.

• Green led Goucher with 18 points on 7-15 shooting, including 3-6 begind the arc.  He also grabbed seven rebounds.
• Joseph added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.
• Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) notched nine points and nine rebounds, while Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) added eight points.
• Goucher outrebounded Mary Baldwin 52-41 but shot 32% overall, 3-12 behind the arc and 12-19 from the free throw line.
• The Squirrels shot 34% overall and knocked down nine of 29 three-point attempts and finished 13-20 at the stripe.

• The Gophers play their home opener on Tuesday, November 15 when they host Mount Aloysius in a 7 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
