Gophers Fall at Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Host Eastern Mennonite University jumped out to a 43-27 halftime lead as it posted a 71-59 victory over Goucher College in non-conference men's basketball Tuesday evening at Yoder Arena.
- Goucher (1-4) held a 9-5 lead three minutes in on two threes by Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) and one by Thomas Lewis (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim).
- Eastern Mennonite (2-2) used a 10-0 run to take a 15-9 lead at the 14:47 mark.
- The Gophers halved the lead on Green's third three of the game 21 seconds later.
- Leading 19-16, the Royals used a 15-2 run to go up 34-18 with just over five minutes left in the half.
- The guests got the lead down to 13 with just over a minute left, but EMU took a 43-27 lead into intermission.
- Goucher got the lead down to 15 three times in the first five-plus minutes and a Brandon Joseph (Bowie, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) basket at the 14:36 mark made it 49-34.
- An 11-0 Eastern Mennonite run made it a 60-34 game with just under 11 minutes left.
- The Gophers closed the game on a 13-2 run and a layup by Drew Pitts (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) with 35 seconds to go closed out the scoring.
- Green paced Goucher with 13 points. He led the Gophers in scoring for the third time in the season's first five games.
- Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg), playing in his hometown, totaled nine points, while Octavius Johnson (Houston, Texas/Pasadena Memorial) recorded eight points and eight rebounds.
- Devin Brackenridge (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) chipped in seven points off the bench.
- Goucher shot 39% for the game and finished 6-24 behind the arc and 9-14 at the free throw line.
- The Gophers held a 36-34 rebound advantage.
- EMU connected on nine of its 29 three-point attempts and shot 45% overall while going 8-10 at the free throw line.
- Goucher is back in action next Wednesday, November 30 when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy in an 8 pm tip at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
