Yue, Winter Lead Gophers to Second Place Finish at DuPont Invitational
WILMINGTON, Del. - Evan Yue (Beijing, China/IMG Academy) placed tied for second while Tim Winter (Howey In The Hills, Groningen / Harens Lyceum) came in fifth to lead the Goucher College men's golf team to a second place finish out of 12 teams at the DuPont Invitational hosted by Swarthmore College at DuPont Country Club Monday and Tuesday.
The Gophers finished at 312 on Monday after the first round then carded a 307 on Tuesday to finish at 619 for the tournament, trailing the host Garnet by nine shots. Goucher edged Arcadia by one shot as the Knights finished at 620.
Yue recorded a four-over 75 on Monday, then shot a season-best 73 on Tuesday to finish tied with second with Gyan Bains of the Swarthmore B team. Yue's second round included an eagle on the 385-yard par 4 13th hole.
Winter carded a 78 on Monday then bettered his round by five strokes to finish at 151 for the tournament to come in fifth. Winter's 73 is one off his career best of 72 set at the Cardinal Spring Classic in late March.
Andy Garcia (A Coruña Galicia, Spain / Colegio Plurilingüe Compañia de María) carded back-to-back 80s to finish at 160 and place tied for 18th. Miguel Reider (Mexico City, Mexico / Tecnológico de Monterrey) opened with a 79 on Monday and finished at 163 to tie for 21st. Reider also eagled on 13 on Tuesday.
Khai Buttner (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) finished at 164 over two days and tied for 29th.
Goucher is back in action Thursday when the B team competes at the Knights Spring Invitational at Makefield Heights in Yardley, Pennsylvania.
