Flamholz Concludes Career as All-Time Leader in AssistsApril 30, 2007
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD — Two student-athletes from
Goucher — a senior attackman on the men's lacrosse team and a
junior on the men's tennis team — were selected Players of
the Week for their respective sports today by the Capital Athletic
Confererence.
According to a release issued by the conference's assistant
commissioner for communications, Dan Flamholz (Baltimore,
MD/Park School) beat out three other nominees for Player
of the Week honors for men's lacrosse and Chris Covey
(Exeter, NH/Exeter) was the player honored for men's
tennis.
For both players, the award covers the week of April 23-29.
In the final two games of his four-year career, Flamholz supplied
the Gophers with four goals and an equal number of assists. He will
graduate as the school's all-time leader in career assists (103)
and in the top three in career points (195) behind Phil Anthony
(1999-2002) and Tim Asher (1996-99).
The Gophers defeated Moravian, 8-2, and St. Vincent, 13-8, to
conclude the season with a 9-8 record.
Covey won two times at singles play at No. 4 and twice in doubles
play at No. 2 to be recognized as the week's top performer in men's
tennis. By knocking off Villa Julie's Doug Ammon 6-1, ret., and
Juniata's Aaron Rhodes 7-5, 6-4, he finished a perfect 8-0 at
fourth singles in 2006-07.
Covey's overall record in singles play this season was 10-8.
