Goucher Men's Lacrosse Drops Contest At Catholic
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Goucher College falls to Catholic University in Landmark Conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Zephan Harnish (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) registered a hat trick to pace the Gophers. Harnish notched his seventh mult-goal performance and fourth hat trick of the season. He leads the team with 26 goals and eight assists for 34 points. He will go into the final three games of his collegiate career, needing eight points for 100 for his career after currently posting 68 goals and 24 assists in 56 career games.
Mason Gorman (Boise, Idaho/Eagle) and Jared Heath (Windham, N.H./New Hampton) each added a goal and an assist while Andrew Sade (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern York) and Brandon Smith (Owings, Mills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added a marker in the loss.
Gorman has five goals and five assists for 10 points and 43 tallies and 24 helpers for 67 points in his career. Heath has 10 tallies and seven assists for 17 points in his first season with the Gophers while Smith notched his first collegiate goal on the afternoon. Sade has 17 tallies and one assist for 18 points in his junior campaign and 48 goals and four feeders for 52 points in his career.
Smith got the scoring started for Goucher with an unassisted tally at 11:43 in the first quarter. Heath scored unassisted at 7:28 to make it a one-goal game, but the Cardinals posted the final two tallies to take a 5-2 lead after the first quarter.
Harnish found the twine off a Jimmy Russo (Frederick, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) feeder at 10:29 in the second quarter for the squad's lone tally in the period with Catholic taking a 10-3 advantage at halftime.
After the Cardinals scored the first five goals of the second half, Sade found the back of the net off a Heath feeder with 67 seconds left.
Goucher outscored Catholic 3-2 in the fourth quarter. Harnish scored off a Rashaan Evans (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) assist at 6:59 before Gorman scored unassisted at 6:12 and then he setup Harnish with 2:39 left to set the final score at 16-7.
Sam Gravel (Rockville, Md./St. Andrews Episcopal School) paced the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers while Tyler Alnutt (Frederick, Md./Linganore) had a career-high four ground balls. Alex Shields (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) made a career-high 22 saves in his first collegiate start.
Goucher returns to action at home against Susquehanna on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m. The Gophers men's golf team will receive its 2018 championship rings after winning the Landmark Conference Championships in its inaugural season.
