Neumann Pulls Away from Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Neumann University scored the final five goals before halftime as it pulled away from Goucher College for a 14-4 non-conference men's lacrosse victory Wednesday evening at Beldon Field.
- Neumann (5-1) scored twice in the first 3:19 and extended its lead to 3-0 with 5:08 left in the first.
- Goucher (0-6) got on the board with 2:12 left as Jack McDermott (Wilmington, Del./The White Mountain School) scored for the second straight game.
- The Knights scored off the ensuing faceoff eight seconds later.
- The Gophers pulled within 4-2 with 16 seconds left in the quarter on a tally by Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley).
- Neither team scored until Drew Conlon scored for Neumann with just over six minutes gone.
- Milan Temple (Joppatowne, Md./Concordia Prep) pulled the Gophers within two once again with 6:57 remaining before halftime. Smith assisted on the goal.
- Neumann scored five times in a span of four minutes to take a 10-3 lead with 2:08 on the clock.
- The Knights carried their seven-goal advantage into intermission.
- Conlon scored with 4:25 left in the third to make it 11-3.
- The guests extended their lead to nine with a man-up tally in the final minute of the frame.
- Goucher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made eight saves in the period as Neumann outshot the Gophers 13-4.
- Dylan White (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) scored his first career goal 3:41 into the final frame. Smith added his second helper of the night.
- Goals at 10:39 and 2:15 by the Knights accounted for the final.
- Neumann held a 50-15 shot advantage, with Lugo finishing with 20 saves.
- Lugo's 20 saves were a season high
- Sean Nolan (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) had three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
- Smith finished with four ground balls, while Eric Conaway, Jr. (Baltimore, Md.) also had two caused turnovers.
- Jaden Algarin (Havre de Grace, Md./Concordia Prep) played the final six minutes of the game for the Gophers in goal and made one save.
- Goucher continues its five-game homestand on Saturday, hosting Immaculata at 1 pm at Beldon Field.
