Green Terror Too Much for Gophers

WESTMINSTER, Md. - After spotting visiting Goucher College an early two-goal lead, the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team stormed past the Gophers for an 14-4 victory Wednesday afternoon at Gill Stadium.
- Goucher (1-2) got on the board first as Eric Conaway, Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) scored his first goal of the season at the 12:16 mark.
- Just over a minute later, Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) registered his eighth goal of the season to put the Gophers up 2-0.
- McDaniel (2-1) got on the board with just under seven minutes to go in the opening frame.
- The Green Terror scored three more times as it scored four times in a span of 2:45 to go up 4-2.
- McDaniel scored twice in a span of 40 seconds to increase its lead to 6-2 with 11:43 to go before halftime.
- The first Green Terror goal came on a man-up opportunity.
- Jason Fritz increased McDaniel's lead to 7-2 with his third goal of the game just over four minutes before the break.
- The hosts took that 7-2 lead into intermission.
- Four more Green Terror goals in the first 8:18 of the second half increased the hosts' lead to 11-2.
- Milan Temple (Joppatowne, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) stopped McDaniel's scoring run with his second goal of the season at the 4:16 mark, with Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) assisting.
- McDaniel rattled off three goals in the final 3:21 of the third to take a 14-3 lead into the final frame.
- Morgan scored his second goal of the season 2:18 into the final frame.
- McDaniel outshot Goucher 44-19 on the afternoon and won 15 of the game's 21 faceoffs.
- Smith has scored in each of Goucher's first three games, while Morgan has scored in both games he has appeared in.
- Gopher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./St. Andrew's) recorded 12 saves before being relieved late by Jack Kroninger (Mendocino, Calif. / Mendocino), who made one save.
- Sean Nolan (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) finished with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers for Goucher.
- Conaway led Goucher with six shots on the day.
- Goucher returns home on Saturday, March 4 when it hosts Lebanon Valley in a 1 pm contest at Beldon Field.
