Gophers Pull Away From Juniata For 14-5 Win

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Visiting Goucher College outscored Juniata College 9-1 after halftime as it evened its Landmark Conference men's lacrosse record with a 14-5 victory Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.
- Juniata (3-7, 0-2 Landmark) scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead 6:18 into the contest.
- Goucher (4-7, 1-1) got on the board 1:30 later on a tally by Sean Nolan (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran).
- Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored at the 6:12 mark, followed by an Eric Conaway, Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) goal 58 seconds later to give Goucher a 3-2 lead.
- The Eagles tied the game 3-3 on a Beaux Wojciehowski goal 45 seconds into the second quarter.
- With 10:10 left before halftime, Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) scored to put the Gophers in front 4-3.
- Juniata tied the game 35 seconds later 4-4.
- Milan Temple (Joppatowne, Md./Concordia Prep) scored 4:43 before intermission to put the guests in front 5-4, a one-goal lead they would maintain at the break.
- Juniata forged the game's fourth tie at the 10:38 mark of the third quarter.
- Back-to-back goals by Smith 12 seconds apart put the Gophers in front for good with 9:18 left. Conaway assisted on the second score.
- Morgan scored with 5:12 remaining to give Goucher an 8-5 lead.
- Conaway closed out the third quarter scoring with his goal with 26 seconds on the clock.
- Theo Cook IV (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) scored on a feed from Smith at the 11:05 mark to make it 10-5.
- Man-up tallies by Nolan at 9:11 and Temple with just under eight minutes to go pushed the lead to seven.
- Morgan completed his hat trick with his third goal with 7:24 left, while Temple's third goal to close out the scoring game with 2:24 remaining.
- Goucher outshot Juniata 40-29 and won 13 of the game's 23 faceoffs.
- Morgan led the Gophers offensively with three goals and three assists, while Smith finished with three goals and an assist.
- Temple also recorded three goals, while Nolan added two.
- Conaway chipped in with two goals and an assist. He also picked up a team-high six ground balls.
- Gopher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) stopped 15 of the 20 shots he faced and with 648 career saves, moved into third place in program history in career saves.
- Nolan had three of Goucher's eight caused turnovers on the afternoon.
- Kyle Ramos (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) and Ethan Pratt (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) each had four ground balls.
- Goucher returns home Saturday, April 8 as it hosts Drew University in a 1 pm Landmark Conference contest at Beldon Field.
