Big Third Quarter Moves Scranton Past Gophers

SCRANTON, Pa. - Host Scranton outscored Goucher College 8-1 in the third quarter en route to a 19-8 Landmark Conference men's lacrosse victory at Weiss Field Saturday afternoon.
- Goucher (5-9, 2-3 Landmark) took a 1-0 lead 1:28 into the game on a goal by Jack McDermott (Wilmington, Del./The White Mountain School).
- Eric Conaway, Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) assisted on McDermott's tally.
- Scranton (10-5, 4-1) tied the game with just over 11 minutes left in the opening frame.
- Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) put the Gophers up 2-1 on a feed from Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) with just under three minutes left in the opening frame.
- The Royals tied the game with 55 ticks on the clock.
- Morgan scored 1:51 into the second to put the guests up 3-2.
- Scranton reeled off the next four goals to take a 6-3 lead with 4:21 remaining in the half.
- Morgan struck again with 3:39 in the half to make it 6-4. Dylan White (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) assisted on the tally.
- McDermott scored with just over a minute left before intermission to make it 8-5 in favor of Scranton at halftime.
- Scranton scored the first four goals of the second half to go up 12-5.
- Smith notched Goucher's first goal of the second half at the 6:11 mark to make it a 12-6 game.
- The Royals scored four more times in the final 5:34 of the quarter to build a 16-6 advantage.
- McDermott scored his third goal of the game, a man-up tally, with 12:35 left. Smith assisted on the goal.
- Smith scored his third of the game with 8:28 remaining.
- Play was suspended with 2:57 remaining in the game due to lightning in the area and after a brief delay the game was declared official.
- McDermott and Smith each finished with three goals and an assist on the afternoon.
- Smith extended his goal-scoring streak to nine games.
- With two goals and an assist, Morgan recorded his fourth straight multi-goal game.
- Nick Gambone (Norristown, Pa./LaSalle College) had a pair of caused turnovers.
- Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made 15 saves in goal for Goucher.
- Goucher is back home next Saturday, April 22, when it hosts Susquehanna in a 1 pm Landmark Conference contest at Beldon Field.
