Goucher Men's Soccer Ends In A 2-All Standstill Against Elizabethtown On Senior Day

BALTIMORE, Md. –BALTIMORE, Md. – It was a day to salute the 2019 Goucher College senior class and a day to look ahead to the future. Senior Brandon Cohen (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) capped off his career in a Gophers uniform by converting a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to help Goucher end in a 2-all standstill against Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference men's soccer action on Saturday. The squad's first goal was comprised of two freshmen and a sophomore while freshman Joe May (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) came up big in between the pipes.

After a foul by the Blue Jays netminder in the box, Cohen stepped up and knotted the game at 2 when he found the netting at the 72:10 mark. The Gophers are 3-1-2 on the year when they score two goals in a match.

Nearly a minute after Cohen's goal, Elizabethtown had their own PK opportunity. May came up big with the save of the penalty shot and also got back up and stopped the rebound shot to maintain the 2-all standstill. May would have three saves of his 10 stops in the final 33 minutes of the match.

The future was at the forefront for the first goal of the match after Jack Topper (Frederick, Md./Govenor Thomas Johnson) hit a corner kick that found Drew List (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall College HS) and then Yaya Diabiagate's (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) head into the netting for an early 1-0 lead at the 8:03 mark. The Blue Jays scored twice in the first half, but Cohen found the twine in the second half and the game ended in a standstill.

Cohen and fellow seniors Dan Laurilliard (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) and Matt Johns (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) were honored before the game.

Laurillard has appeared in 69 games with 46 starts and 21 shots. Johns appeared in two games in his career and assisted the team on the sideline in 2019.

With the tally on Saturday, Cohen leads the team with five goals and two assists for 12 points, For his career, the senior has appeared in 65 games including 64 starts with 25 goals and 12 assists for 62 points on 167 career shots. He has moved into fifth place in program history in career points.

It was Diabagate's third goal of the season and ranks third on the team with six points. It was the second assist for both Topper and List on the year. List now has two tallies and three assists for seven points in his two-year career.

Goucher will be on the road for its final two matches, starting at Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday. Match time is 6 p.m.
