Cohen Moves Into Fourth Place In Career Goals And Points In Program History In Goucher Men's Soccer 5-2 Win
GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Brandon Cohen (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) scored twice while Xavier Dever (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) posted a goal and assisted on the decisive tally to power Goucher College past Gwynedd Mercy University 5-2 in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday.
Cohen tied the game at 2 with a tally off a Matt Gilley (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) assist at the 55:44 mark and then helped seal the win when he twinkled the twine off Yaya Diabagate's (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) first collegiate assist at 77:32. The senior leads the team with seven tallies and two assists for 16 points and now has 27 markers and 12 assists for 66 points in his career. The senior has moved into a tie for fourth place with Chris Walton (1994-96) for goals and assists on the all-time list. It is his second multi-goal performance of the season and fourth of his career.
Dever tied the game at 1 with his second career goal at 28:17 off a Drew List (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall College HS) feed and then set up the go-ahead goal to Matthew Malhenzie (Etters, Pa./Red Land) with 57:27 for a 3-2 lead for a career-high three points. Dever now ranks fourth on the squad with two tallies and two assists for six points while Malhenzie notched his second game-winner in four contests and has two markers for four points in his freshman campaign.
Aidan Spoor (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) added his first collegiate goal at the 82:46 mark to cap a 5-2 win in the biggest offensive outburst of the season for the Gophers. The sophomore now has a goal and an assist for three points in his career. Diabagate ranks third on the team with three goals and an assist for seven points while List has a team-best three assists for three points in 2019 and two markers and four assists for eight points. It was Gilley's second career assist and first since his freshman year.
Joe May (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) made three saves in 85:47 minutes of action while Julian Brown (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) played the final 4:13 in his collegiate debut.
Goucher is 3-2-1 in its last six matches and 4-1-2 when the team scores two goals in a game.
The Gophers close out the season at Moravian College on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m.
