Gophers Double Up Bobcats for First Win

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's soccer team made a pair of first half goals stand up as the Gophers doubled up Pitt-Greensburg 2-1 for their first win Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Goucher (1-0-1) had the first shot of the game just over five minutes in when Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) put a shot on frame that was saved by Pitt Greensburg (1-1) goalie Danny Rodgers.
- Jeremiah Odubade (Capital Heights, Md./Fairmont Heights) had a shot saved by Rodgers three minutes later.
- Following a foul in the box by the Bobcats, Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC) converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the season in the 28th minute.
- Nearly five minutes later, Daniel Tyrvainen (Helsinki, Finland/French Finnish School), who had just entered the game, headed home a left-to-right corner kick by Isaiah Perry (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) for his first collegiate goal.
- Pitt-Greensburg had its first shot of the game in the final minute saved by Jeff Castro (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township).
- Alvarado had a shot on goal 10 minutes into the second half that Rodgers was forced to make a kick save on.
- Rodgers made another save on a shot by Odubade with just over 30 minutes to go.
- The Gophers kept up the pressure as a Nakhid shot was stopped by Rodgers with 25 minutes left.
- Will Frasier (Hereford, Md. / Hereford) put a shot on target with just under 14 minutes to play.
- On a restart with just over three minutes left, the Bobcats got on the board as Caleb Yuricha scored.
- Goucher outshot the Bobcats 17-2 and had five of the game's six corner kicks.
- Castro made one save, while Rodgers stopped 10 shots for Pitt-Greensburg.
- Alvarado led the Gophers with five shots on the afternoon.
- Goucher is 1-0-1 to start the season for the first time since 2016.

- The Gophers return home Wednesday, September 14, hosting McDaniel in a 7 pm contest at Beldon Field.
