Gophers Play to 2-2 Tie at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - The Goucher College men's soccer team remained unbeaten in 2022 as it played to a 2-2 tie at Hood Wednesday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field. The Gophers got two goals in a span of 2:11 early in the second half from Jeremiah Odubade (Capital Heights, Md./Fairmont Heights) and Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC).
- Neither side put a shot on goal until the 27th minute when Goucher (2-0-2) tested Hood (2-0-1) keeper Nicholas Humphries with a shot by Eli Berkowitz (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) that was saved.
- Gopher goalie Jeff Castro (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) made his first save with just over 15 minutes left on a shot by Cam Simpler.
- Castro made two more saves in the 38th and 41st minutes.
- Daniel Tyrvainen (Helsinki, Finland/French Finnish School) put a shot on target with just under two minutes remaining that was stopped by Humphries.
- Goucher outshot Hood 5-3 in the opening 45 minutes.
- In the 53rd minute, Odubade registered his first goal of the season on an unassisted tally to give the Gophers a 1-0 lead.
- Just over two minutes later following a Hood foul, Nakhid took a penalty kick and converted for his fourth goal of the season and third straight game with a PK.
- The Blazers halved the lead in the 57th minute as Ben Keville knocked home a feed from Paul Hagen.
- Hood tied the game just past the 68-minute mark as Taj Weems had his first goal of the season.
- The hosts had another shot just over a minute later that was saved by Castro.
- In the 74th minute Abou Makine (Baltimore, Md./Patterson) put a shot on frame that was turned aside by Humphries.
- Humphries made two more saves on shots by Makine and Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park).
- Goucher outshot Hood 16-6 including 11-3 in the second half.
- Castro made four saves, while Humphries was forced to make five stops.
- Both teams took five corner kicks.
- Makine led the Gophers with four shots, putting three on goal.
- Goucher is unbeaten through four games for the first time since 2016 when the Gophers also started 2-0-2.
- Goucher remains on the road Saturday, traveling to Wilson for a 3 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home on Wednesday, September 14, hosting McDaniel at 7 pm at Beldon Field.
