Early Second Half Blitz Moves Gophers Past Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Goucher College men's soccer team got goals from four different scorers in a 16-minute span early in the second half en route to a 4-0 triumph at Wilson College Saturday afternoon. The Gophers remain unbeaten at 3-0-2 on the season.
- Adrian Mubiru (Riverdale Park, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) had Goucher's first shot on goal of the game just shy of the five-minute mark.
- Wilson (0-3-1) put its first shot on frame just before halfway. The attempt was made by first year keeper Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy / Williston Northampton), who was making his first career start.
- Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC) had a bid turned away in the 38th minute by Phoenix keeper Vincent Natale.
- The two teams entered halftime deadlocked 0-0 despite a 15-2 shot advantage for the Gophers.
- Just over five minutes into the second half Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) broke the ice with his blast from the top of the 18 following a corner kick.
- In the 54th minute Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan / Richard Montgomery) headed home a flick off a corner kick by Mubiru to make it 2-0.
- 1:21 later Isaiah Perry (West Hartford, Conn. / William H. Hall) knocked home a loose ball in front of the Wilson goal making it 3-0. Xavier Dever (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) assisted on the tally.
- At the 66:18 mark first year Paul Van Engeland (Velp, The Netherlands / Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem) one-timed a ball past Natale for his first collegiate goal.
- Wilson put a shot on goal with just over 13 minutes left that was stopped by Sternini.
- Goucher outshot Wilson 27-6 for the game and took 11 of the game's 13 corner kicks.
- Sternini played the first 83:55 in goal and made a trio of saves. Julian Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Springfield Township) played the final 6:05 in goal and was not forced to make a save to preserve the shutout.
- Perry led the Gophers with six shots.
- The Gophers are 3-0-2 for the first time since 2016.
- Goucher returns home on Wednesday, September 14 when it hosts McDaniel in a 7 pm contest at Beldon Field.
