Beringer Scores Twice, Gophers Blank Chargers

LANCASTER, Pa. - Senior Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan/Richard Montgomery) scored twice and Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy/Williston Northampton) recorded five saves as the Goucher College men's soccer team blanked Lancaster Bible College 3-0 Wednesday evening at Donald H. Funk Field.
- Goucher (5-1-3) scored just 2:10 into the contest as Beringer collected a misplay from an LBC (5-3-1) defender and slid it in from 10 yards out.
- Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) put a shot on goal in the ninth minute that was turned aside.
- Moments later Sternini made his first save of the contest as Lancaster Bible's (5-3-1) Jackson Shreiner put a low shot on goal.
- Alvarado just under 12 minutes in off a corner kick. The kick was headed away by a Charger defender out to Alvarado at the top of the box, who's blast snuck in under the crossbar to make it 2-0.
- Sternini made a pair of saves in the 27th and 33rd minutes.
- The Gophers went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
- A shot by LBC's Andrew Cox at the 53:35 mark was stopped by Sternini.
- Andres Aristimuno (Huger, S.C. / Oceanside Collegiate Academy) had a shot saved by Charger keeper Isaac Barrow just past the 71-minute mark.
- Beringer struck again with just over six minutes to go in transition as he found himself alone with Barrow and slid a shot in from 10 yards out to make it 3-0.
- Goucher is unbeaten in three straight.
- Lancaster Bible outshot Goucher 15-9, with both teams taking five corner kicks.
- Sternini recorded his first collegiate shutout with five saves, while Barrow made a pair of stops.
- Beringer led the Gophers with three shots.
- Goucher improved to 7-1-1 against Lancaster Bible all-time.
- Goucher returns to Landmark Conference action Saturday, traveling to Scranton for a 1 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home on Wednesday, October 5, hosting No. 6 Johns Hopkins in a 7 pm game at Beldon Field.
