SCRANTON, Pa. - Host University of Scranton took a lead just 8:05 into the contest and never looked back as it blanked visiting Goucher College 3-0 in Landmark Conference men's soccer play Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.
- Goucher (5-2-3, 0-1-1 Landmark) had the game's first shot just under two minutes in but an attempt by Adrian Mubiru (Riverdale Park, Md./International HS at Langley Park) was wide.
- Just past the 8:00 mark Scranton's (7-2-1, 1-1) Ciaran Corr had an initial shot saved by Gopher keeper Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy/Williston Northampton but Corr was able to put home the rebound.
- Sternini made two more saves in the 13th and 14th minutes.
- Corr struck again at 18:21 to make it 2-0.
- Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan/Richard Montgomery) had a shot wide just past the 30-minute mark for Goucher.
- Scranton made it 3-0 with just over 10 minutes to go before halftime as Anthony Rizzi scored for the Royals.
- Corr put a shot on Sternini five minutes into the second half but Sternini made the save.
- With just over 34 minutes to play Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) and Isaiah Perry (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) had shots go wide for Goucher.
- Sternini made his final save in the 74th minute.
- The guests had three shots in the final five minutes but all three were off target.
- Both teams had 13 shots on the afternoon.
- Sternini finished with five saves, while Royal keeper Aidan Hartey was not forced to make a save.
- Alvarado led the Gophers with four shots.
- Goucher saw its three-match unbeaten streak snapped.
- Goucher returns home on Wednesday when it hosts sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins in a 7 pm match at Beldon Field.
