Gophers Blank Penn State Berks for Second Straight

READING, Pa. - Junior Jeremiah Odubade (London, England/Fairmont Heights) totaled a goal and an assist as the Goucher College men's soccer team blanked Penn State Berks 2- 0 Tuesday afternoon at Turf Field.
- Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) had a shot saved for Goucher (7-3-3) by Penn State Berks (3-9-1) goalie Ethan Brazier three minutes into the game.
- Just past the seven minute mark, Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan/Richard Montgomery) sent in a corner kick that was headed home by Odubade to make it 1-0.
- In the 14th minute, Gopher keeper Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy/Williston Northampton) made his first save of the game.
- Sternini had another save just shy of midway.
- With 21 minutes left in the half, Odubade sent a cross from the end line to Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC), who put it home to double the Goucher advantage.
- The goal was Nakhid's team-leading eighth of the season.
- Two minutes later Xavier Dever (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) had a shot saved by Brazier.
- Goucher had five shots the rest of the half, two on target, that were both stopped by Brazier.
- Brazier had a save on Odubade three minutes into the second half.
- A shot by Yaya Diabagate (Hyattsville, Md.) in the 53rd minute hit the post.
- Andres Aristimuno (Huger, S.C./Oceanside Collegiate Academy) and Nakhid had shots stopped by Brazier around the halfway mark of the half.
- The Lions sent a shot wide with just under two minutes left.
- Goucher outshot Penn State Berks 17-4 and held a 9-3 lead in corner kicks.
- Sternini made a pair of saves en route to his second straight shutout and third of the season.
- Aristimuno led the Gophers with four shots.
- The Gophers' seven wins are already their most since 2014 when they finished 8-6-3.
- Goucher improved to 7-0 all-time against Penn State Berks.
- Goucher returns to Landmark Conference play Saturday when it travels to Juniata for a 1 pm contest.
- The Gophers are home Wednesday, October 19 when they host Catholic in a 7 pm contest at Beldon Field.
