Gophers Post Third Straight Shutout, Blank Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Goucher College men's soccer team posted its third straight shutout Saturday afternoon, blanking Juniata College 3-0 in Landmark Conference action at Gibbel Stadium.
- Goucher's (8-3-3, 2-1-1 Landmark) Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan/Richard Montgomery) tested Juniata (7-7, 0-4) keeper Axel Grater with a shot on goal 38 seconds into the game that Grater saved.
- Gopher keeper Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy/Williston Northampton) made his first save of the game in the fifth minute.
- Just over 10 minutes into the game, Jeremiah Odubade (London, England/Fairmont Heights) came down the right side and crossed a ball to Beringer. Beringer took a touch and scored a sliding goal that an Eagle defender tried to sweep off the goal line but knocked it in.
- Three minutes later Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) had a bid that was stopped by Grater.
- Sternini made a save on a shot by Blake Cassel with 24 minutes left in the half.
- Alvarado and Beringer each had another shot on goal but Grater was able to turn away both.
- Juniata generated three corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the second half but did not get a shot off.
- In the 62nd minute off a long restart, Beringer chipeed a ball to Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC) who headed it off Grater and in for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
- Odubade and Yaya Diabagate (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) had shots turned away by Grater in the 73rd minute.
- With seven minutes left, a shot by Odubade was cleared away by a Juniata defender.
- Goucher outshot Juniata 16-3 and took eight of the game's 13 corner kicks.
- Sternini made a pair of saves en route to his third straight shutout and fourth of the season.
- Grater recorded eight stops.
- Alvarado finished with six shots while Beringer had four.
- Goucher's eight wins are its most since the 2014 season.
- The Gophers have won three straight for the first time since 2018 when they had a four-match winning streak. Their three straight shutouts are the first time that has happened since 2017.
