Gophers Forge Tie at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Goucher College men's soccer team kept itself in the thick of the Landmark Conference race as it came away with a 1-1 draw at Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon at Herr Field.
- Goucher (8-4-4, 2-2-2 Landmark had the game's first shot in the 14th minute on an attempt by Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park).
- Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan/Richard Montgomery) had a shot go wide in the 20th minute.
- The Blue Jays (8-4-4, 3-0-3) put their first shot of the game on goal in the 28th minute that was saved by Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy/Williston Northampton).
- Etown had two more shots the rest of the half, one on goal that was turned aside by Sternini.
- Sternini made a pair of saves in the first eight minutes of the second half.
- Will Frasier (Hereford, Md./Hereford) sent a shot high just past the 58-minute mark.
- Elizabethtown got on the board with just over 28 minutes left as Edward Rainey scored.
- Goucher tied the game just over nine minutes later on a restart just outside the Blue Jay penalty area.
- Nick Sickler (Towson, Md./Towson) sent a ball into the box that was put home by Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC) for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
- Less than a minute later Andres Aristimuno (Huger, S.C./Oceanside Collegiate Academy) put a shot on frame, forcing Blue Jay keeper Kelvin Del Cid to make a stop.
- Sternini made the final save of the game with four minutes to go.
- With one game remaining, Goucher sits fourth in the Landmark Conference standings with eight points, one point behind third-place Moravian which it faces next week and one ahead of Scranton.
- Etown held a 13-7 shot advantage and took four corner kicks to Goucher's three.
- Sternini made five saves, while Del Cid recorded one stop.
- Elizabethtown is unbeaten in its last nine games (6-0-3).

- Goucher closes out the regular season next Saturday, hosting Moravian at 1 pm at Beldon Field.
- The Gophers will honor their senior class prior to the contest.
