Waples, Van Engeland Score in 2-1 Win at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Goucher College scored a goal in each half, including Eian Waples' first collegiate goal, as it downed Susquehanna 2-0 Tuesday night in Landmark Conference women's soccer at Sassafras Multipurpose Field.
- Goucher (7-3-2, 2-2-1 Landmark) scored 1:57 into the game on Waples' first collegiate goal.
- Yaya Diabagate played a long ball downfield, that Waples tracked down and fired on Susquehanna (3-7-2, 1-4) goalie Tony Burns.
- Burns made an initial save but the rebound was knocked in by Waples to make it 1-0.
- Jeremiah Odubade had a shot blocked in the fifth minute.
- The River Hawks had their first shot of the night in the 13th minute go right.
- Elliot Bezdek had a shot saved by Burns in the 25th minute.
- Goucher outshot Susquehanna 9-2 in the opening 45 minutes.
- Michael Adekanmbi had a shot blocked by a River Hawk defender 10 minutes in.
- Will Frasier had a shot saved by Burns five minutes later.
- Susquehanna put a shot on goal in the 69th minute that was saved by Goucher goalie Ale Sternini.
- Paul Van Engeland scored Goucher's second goal of the night with just over 20 minutes to play.
- Rafael Berhanu took a pass inside the box and tapped it out to Van Engeland at the top of the 18 who blasted it inside the far left post.
- Susquehanna converted a penalty kick with just over 10 minutes left.
- Goucher played up a man for the final nearly 10 minutes as a River Hawk player was sent off with his second yellow card of the evening.
- The Gophers outshot Susquehanna 16-7 and took seven corners to the River Hawks' one.
- Sternini made one save for Goucher, while Burns recorded five stops for the hosts.
- Goucher is unbeaten in its last seven games against Susquehanna (5-0-2).
- Halfway through conference play, the Gophers sit fifth in the 10-team Landmark standings with seven points, two points behind Elizabethtown and Drew tied for third.
- Goucher travels to Drew University on Saturday for a 2 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home next Saturday, October 21, hosting Elizabethtown at 1 pm at Beldon Field.
