Arena Nets First Goal, Gophers Edged at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sophomore Domenic Arena scored his first collegiate goal late as the Goucher College men's soccer team fell 2-1 to McDaniel College at the McDaniel Soccer Complex Tuesday afternoon.
- Goucher's (8-6-2) Bobby Beringer had a shot just 11 seconds into the game that was saved by McDaniel (5-6-5) goalie Gianluca Conte.
- Will Frasier had another shot turned aside by Conte in the fourth minute.
- The Green Terror took a 1-0 lead 7:34 into the game on a Chase Osborn tally.
- Gopher goalie Dylan Weston made his first save of the game 10 minutes in.
- Frasier rang a shot off the crossbar in the 15th minute.
- Conte made back-to-back saves a minute apart on Jeremiah Odubade and Michael Adekanmbi in the 21st minute.
- Charlie Olson's goal 2:18 into the second half increased the McDaniel lead to 2-0.
- Three minutes later Weston made a save on a AJ Reta shot.
- Weston made another save in the 69th minute.
- With just over seven minutes to go, Paul Van Engeland played a pass from midfield to Arena, who one-timed a shot over the head of Conte and into the undefended goal for his first collegiate tally.
- Goucher pushed up in the final minutes trying to come up with the equalizer but was unable to get a shot away.
- McDaniel held a 16-11 shot advantage for the afternoon and took seven corners to the Gophers' one.
- Weston, making his first collegiate start in goal, registered seven saves, while Conte recorded four stops.
- Arena becomes the Gophers' 14th different goal scorer this season.
- Adekanmbi had four shots to lead Goucher.
- The Green Terror improved their unbeaten streak in the series to seven (5-0-2).
- Goucher closes out the regular season Saturday when it travels to Wilkes for a 1 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers currently sit in a three-way tie for the No. 5 spot in the conference standings and can clinch the program's second straight conference tournament berth with a win over the Colonels.
