BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Men's Soccer team (2-1-2 overall) hosted the Wilson College Pheonix (1-4-1 overall) for their faculty and staff appreciation game on Wednesday afternoon. Two second half goals, including one in the final minutes, secured the win for Goucher 2-0.
Goucher began the first half on the attack, recording four shots and a corner in the first 10 minutes of the contest. A break away from Wilson led to their first shot, and first save of the game for Ale Sternini. For the remainder of the half, the team traded shots, but no one was able to break through, leaving the game tied 0-0.
Similar to the first half, Goucher's offense came to life early, with Tiem Kuiy and Jonathan Adima recording shots just 10 seconds apart. The Pheonix recorded back to back shots, forcing two quick saves from Sternini. The Gophers were able to find the back of the net just under 20 mintes into the half, with junior, Elliot Bezdek finished a set piece to give the Gophers the lead.
After the goal, both teams traded attack efforts, until Joel Lukoo gave the Gophers a cushion after finding the back of the net with one minute left in the game.
The Gophers return to action on Friday, September 12th at 4pm against Immaculata. After a short road trip, they return back to Beldon on Saturday, September 20th at 2pm versus Widener.
