ST. MARY'S CITY, MD — Andrew Ortiz (Silver
Spring, MD/Gonzaga) was selected to represent Goucher on
the 2007 All-Capital Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Team, which
was releaed today.
In balloting by the conference's eight head coaches, Ortiz finished
in a tie with Matthew Nicholson from Salisbury for a spot on the
All-CAC second team reserved for No. 1 singles players. John James
from Mary Washington earned first-team all-conference honors at
first singles and was also selected CAC Player of the Year.
Ortiz competed primarily at first singles for the Gophers in
2006-07, fashioning a 10-4 record at that position. Overall, the
freshman finished the season at 11-7.
By winning four of their final five matches, head coach Michael
Vann's Gophers achieved a 7-9 record in 2006-07.
