YORK, Pa. - Six games is the most any of Goucher's players were able to win during the singles competition today in a 9-0 loss to York.
Francisco Barrera (Wheaton, MD/Wheaton) came closest to winning a set as he bowed to York's Ron Ho at fifth singles, 6-1, 7-5. The only other singles match in which there was not a 6-0 set was at No. 4 where Steve Baum (Fallston, MD/Fallston) suffered a 6-2, 6-1 setback to Joel Trimmer of the Spartans.
At No. 1 singles, Tim Mowrer was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter).
This is only the fourth time in 2007-08 that the Gophers (2-7) were swept in singles play.
The most competitive match in doubles play was at No. 1 where Ryan Fickes and Ho turned back Baum and Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, NY/Solomon Schechter), 8-5.
