TOWSON, Md. - Goucher concluded a five-matches-in-five-days stretch today by pinning a 6-3 setback on McDaniel (0-3).
In bringing a four-match losing streak to an end, head coach Michael Vann's Gophers (3-7) prevailed in two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches. The two doubles wins were by Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, NY/Solomon Schechter) and Steve Baum (Fallston, MD/Fallston) at No. 1 and Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter) and Michael Simon (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) at No. 2. Brooks and Baum picked up their fourth win of the season by downing Ben Faber and Chris Reed, 9-8 (3); Covey and Simon were victorious over Dan Hovorka and Corey Graybill, 8-2.
Covey, Baum and Simon accounted for three of Goucher's four wins during singles competition. Covey took out Faber 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2, Baum clinched the victory for the Gophers with his 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Reed at No. 3, and Simon improved to 4-0 at No. 6 this season by polishing off Adrian Pettaway 6-0, 6-0.
Also winning for Goucher in singles play was Billie Weiss (Lutherville, MD/Dulaney) at No. 5 where he earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Drew Gress.
