BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Because Goucher had already swept the three doubles matches, a split of the six singles matches was still enough for head coach Michael Vann's Gophers to secure a 6-3 Landmark Conference victory over Moravian today.
There were only two contested doubles matches: at No. 1, Steve Baum (Fallston, MD/Fallston) and Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, NY/Solomon Schechter) defeated Ian Box and Keith Feinman, 8-5, and at No. 2, Michael Simon (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) and Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter) turned back Chandler Forman and Thomas Turcich, 8-6.
Baum and Brooks trailed 5-2 at one point in their match before storming back by winning the final six games.
Brooks was also down 5-1 in the first set of his match against Forman at No. 2 singles, but rallied for a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory. At No. 3, Covey was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Feinman.
The Gophers (4-7, 2-2 Landmark) won by default at sixth singles and third doubles.
