ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Michael Simon (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) produced Goucher's only win in singles play today in the Gophers' 7-2 loss to Elizabethtown.
The Gophers (4-11) earned their other point at No. 1 doubles where Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, NY/Solomon Schechter) and Steve Baum (Fallston, MD/Fallston) defeated Brok Walker and Bryan Metz, 9-8 (4).
Simon maintained his perfect record at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Stijn van Esveld of the Blue Jays. The senior is now 7-0 at that spot in the Gophers' singles line-up in 2007-08.
The only other Goucher player to win a set in singles play was Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter) at No. 2. He captured the second set, but suffered a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (6) loss to Andrew Voshell.
For Brooks and Baum, today's win was their team-leading six of the season in doubles play.
