Flying Dutchmen Encounter Little Turbulence, Defeat Gophers

Csete Prevails at No. 5 Singles, Team-High Fifth Win of 2009-10 Season
TOWSON, Md. — Daniel Csete (Miami, Fla./Brewster
Academy) picked up his team-leading fifth singles win of
the season, but he also provided Goucher with its only point today
in an 8-1 loss to Lebanon Valley.
Csete, competing for the Gophers (1-9) at No. 5 singles, registered a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Lebanon Valley's Joel Ramos.
The Flying Dutchmen (6-4) took the remaining five singles matches, but only three of them in straight sets. Ethan Grodzinski was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Goucher's Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter) at No. 1.
Matchbreakers were needed to determine the winners at both second and third singles. At No. 2, Tom Neckelmann squared off against Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and came out on top 6-3, 6-7 (8), 1-0 (6); at No. 3, Andrew Deckert came back from being down a set to knock off Francisco Barrera (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3).
Grodzinski and Jon Ginrich recorded an 8-6 victory over Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) and Brooks at No. 1 doubles.
