All Six Singles Players for Goucher Win At Least One Game
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher tangled with a Division I opponent for
the first time since the 2005-06 season today and the result was
predictable, but not pretty: the Gophers were handed a 9-0 setback
by Loyola (Md.).
The Greyhounds (10-5) encountered little trouble in doubles play. At No. 1, Keyan Sanai and J. Pierce Norton recorded an 8-1 victory over Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter) and Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney); at No. 2, Matt McDaniel and Bobby Gorczakowski came out on top of Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville), 8-2.
All six players in the singles lineup for Goucher (2-10) won at least one game, but each one fell in straight sets. Sanai knocked off Brooks 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Norton defeated Baum 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 and Weiss bowed to McDaniel 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
The last time Goucher took the court against a Division I opponent was a match on February 18, 2005, against Mount St. Mary's. The Mountaineers were victorious that day, 7-0, as they were able to avenge a 5-2 loss to the Gophers from the 2004-05 season.
