Greyhounds Ready for Gophers, Record 9-0 Victory
BETHLEHEM, Pa. With the 2009-10 season down to only four remaining matches, Goucher was looking to pull off an upset in the Landmark Conference today by knocking off Moravian. The Greyhounds were ready for the Gophers, however, and pinned a 9-0 setback on head coach Michael Vann's squad.
Baum, Leonard Put Up Fight at No. 1 Doubles, Suffer 8-6 Setback
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — With the 2009-10 season down to only four
remaining matches, Goucher was looking to pull off an upset in the
Landmark Conference today by knocking off Moravian. The Greyhounds
were ready for the Gophers, however, and pinned a 9-0 setback on
head coach Michael Vann's squad.
The No. 1 doubles match that had Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) going for the Gophers (3-13, 1-4 Landmark) proved to be one of the most competitive of the day. Baum and Leonard were beaten by Ian Box and Drew Shreter, 8-6.
Baum suffered only his first loss in four tries at the top spot in Goucher's singles lineup when he ran into Box again. Box prevailed 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2, Moravian's Kevin Holze was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter); at No. 3, Shreter defeated Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) 7-6 (3), 6-1.
The Greyhounds (7-6, 4-1 Landmark) also won the remaining three singles matches in straight sets.
