TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's extensive national search for a new head men's tennis coach came to a conclusion today with the announcement that Brendan Kincaid, who has served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs at Salisbury the past four years, will fill the position.
"We are genuinely excited by Brendan Kincaid's decision to accept our offer to be our next head men's tennis coach," said Geoff Miller, Goucher's Director of Athletics, in making the announcement. "We know for a fact that he was an excellent player at Salisbury as an undergraduate because at that time Goucher was a member of the Capital Athletic Conference and played the Sea Gulls annually. Once he used up his eligibility, he helped to take the Salisbury programs to an even higher level as an assistant coach."
Kincaid was named the Rookie of the Year for his sport in the Capital Athletic Conference in 2005. As a senior, he went 20-5 in singles competition, playing primarily at No. 1. In addition, he earned Division III All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association after finishing the season ranked 20th in the nation among singles players and was named Senior Player of the Year in the Atlantic South Region by the ITA.
In 2010, Kincaid, who has been a tennis professional at both the Gibson Island (Md.) Tennis Club and the Ocean City (Md.) Tennis Center, was recognized by the ITA as its National Assistant Coach of the Year.
"Coach Kincaid has proven he can recruit and develop players," Miller commented. "It is clear he cares about young people and helping them grow up. I am confident that he will take our program to the place where we are competing for the Landmark Conference title year in and year out."
"It's very exciting to have this opportunity to be coaching at Goucher College," Kincaid said. "I am looking forward to getting things going in the right direction and bringing the men's tennis program at Goucher back onto the national tennis scene. My first season will bring new challenges I'm certain, but I think that with the players that we have coming back and players that are coming in, we plan to make an instant splash in the Landmark Conference. I really cannot wait to get started."
Kincaid will officially begin his new job on August 15.
