Gophers Earn Second Win, Pin 7-2 Setback on Knights

TOWSON, Md. — A sweep of the three doubles matches and four more wins in singles play added up to a 7-2 victory for Goucher in today's home match against Neumann.
Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School), who partnered together at No. 1 doubles for an 8-2 win over Travis Hall and Dustin Broom, were also victorious at the top two spots in Goucher's siongles lineup. Hoesman, competing at No. 1, turned back Hall 6-1, 6-1, while Spivey defeated Bryan Bodine 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.
The other two wins for the Gophers (2-4) during the singles competition came from Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan/International School Bangkok) at No. 3 and John Bescoby (San Marino, Calif./Maranatha) at No. 4. Fujitani went up against Dustin Broom and recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory; Bescoby pinned a 6-0, 6-0 setback on Todd Del Sordo.
Fujitana and Besbody also prevailed at No. 2 doubles against Joel Maynard and Bodine, 8-6.
At No. 3 doubles, Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) and Chad Resnik (Miami, Fla./Pinecrest School) disposed of Del Sordo and Jimmie Ferguson, 8-0.
The Knights (0-1) picked up their two points in the match at fifth and sixth singles.
