TOWSON, Md. — The only two seniors on Goucher's 2014-15 roster were doubles partners for the 14th time in their careers — but the first time this season — in this afternoon's match against Rutgers-Camden.
The 8-1 victory by John Bescoby (San Marino, Calif./Maranatha) and Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) over Joseph Tyrrell and Geoffrey Bondad at No. 3 was part of a sweep of the three doubles matches the Gophers pulled off. Both players also earned a point by winning during the singles competition as head coach Brendan Kincaid's squad downed the visiting Scarlet Raptors, 9-0.
Bescoby was stationed at No. 4 in the singles line-up and responded by handing Tyrrell a 6-1, 6-0 setback. Murnin defeated Zheng Lin 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3.
Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan/International School Bangkok) took over the team lead in singles victories when he extended his winning streak to six matches by turning back Terry Long 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1. The sophomore now possesses a 13-5 record in singles play.
Also winning for the Gophers (10-4) during the singles competition were Chad Resnik (Miami, Fla./Pinecrest School) at No. 4, Jake Brazeau (Greenville, S.C./Osan American) at No. 5 and William Felinski (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) at No. 6. Resnik overwhelmed Jake Collette-Nippns 6-1, 6-0 and is unbeaten in the three contested singles matched he's played this season.
The Scarlet Raptors (1-2) managed to win only two games in the three doubles matches.
The Gophers will make up a match tomorrow against Elizabethtown that was postponed on April 8.
