Landmark Recognizes Hodges as Week's Top Player
TOWSON, Md. — Jack Hodges (London, England/Shrewsbury School) became the third member of head coach Brendan Kincaid's squad to earn Player of the Week honors in the Landmark Conference in 2015-16 when he was recognized today as the top performer for April 18-24.
TOWSON, Md. — Jack Hodges (London, England/Shrewsbury School) became the third member of head coach Brendan Kincaid's squad to earn Player of the Week honors in the Landmark Conference in 2015-16 when he was recognized today as the top performer for April 18-24.
Hodges, who was competing at No. 2 singles, didn't lose a set in either of his matches. He cruised past Elizabethtown's Ryan Caris 6-0, 6-0 when the Gophers defeated the Blue Jays, 9-0, and was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Branden Deeter from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in another 9-0 victory. He currently has a nine-match winning streak in singles competition, is 14-4 overall, 8-1 at No. 2 and went 8-0 in singles play in Goucher's eight Landmark Conference matches.
In the two doubles matches where he was paired with Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan/International School Bangkok) at No. 2, Hodges again went 2-0 during the week. The first victory was 8-3 over Elizabethtown's Nathan Dowling and Matthew Hornbaker; the second, again by an 8-3 score, was over Deeter and Josh Levitas from Merchant Marine.
Together, Hodges and Fujitani are 13-4 in 2015-16, 13-1 at No. 2.
Fujitani was the Male Tennis Athlete of the Week in the Landmark Conference for March 21-27 and Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was the honoree for March 14-20.
